Amethyst is mined in Brazil, Uruguay, Russia, India, South Korea, Canada, and the USA. The main source of Amethyst comes from Brazil and Uruguay. Amethyst is a brilliant violet-purple colour of Quartz, its' colour ranges from the palest lilac to the darkest purple. The tips of the points are usually darker than the base. The darker the points, the more iron it contains.  In nature amethyst crystals are mainly formed in the inner surface of an amethyst geode, but can also be found on the vugs, holes in rock, and form deep cavities. Amethyst used to be considered as valuable as Rubies, and is found in ancient crowns's jewels.  It remained expensive until, the discovery of large mines in Brazil, around the 1800.
