Apatite on Matrix
Apatite on Matrix Specimens
Blue apatite is a ocean blue coloured stone scattered throughout this chunk, remaining on its matrix. Apatite is a group of phosphate minerals that can be found in a wide range of geological settings. It is commonly found in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. Apatite crystals can form in hydrothermal veins, pegmatites, and as accessory minerals in various types of rocks.
In terms of appearance, apatite crystals typically exhibit a hexagonal prismatic or tabular crystal habit. They can occur in a variety of colors, including green, blue, yellow, brown, and colorless. The most common colors are shades of green and blue, with blue apatite being particularly prized for its vibrant coloration. Some specimens may also exhibit fluorescence under ultraviolet light. Apatite crystals often have a glassy to vitreous luster and can range from transparent to translucent.
These specimens are approximately 3" in lengthÂ
