Desert Rose Selenite, also known as Gypsum Rose or Sand Rose, is a type of Selenite found in most deserts around the world. They range in sizes from pea-sized to many feet in length and width. Desert Rose is a beige coloured gemstone that is very fragile and has to be handled with caution and kept away from water. Desert Rose form, in the desert sands, over a couple of hundred years by a combination of water, wind and sand. There is a type of Desert Rose found only in Oklahoma that formed around 250 million years ago when a shallow sea, that covered the region, receded. The it is locally referred to as “Gerber Sandstone” and is a light brown colour.
