Cassiterite in Quartz
Lovely black Cassiterite, sometimes also known as Tinstone, or Tin Stone, is a primary tim oxide that has formed in Quartz. The orange colour, more prevalent in some stones than in others is natural Iron or Hematite staining. Because of its rarity, Cassiterite is known as a collector’s stone.
It is typically found in high-temperature hydrothermal veins and in granite. In the 18th and much of the 19th centuries, the very large vein deposits of Cornwall were the major source of tin. Today most of the world’s cassiterite is mined in Malaysia, Indonesia, Bolivia, Thailand, Nigeria, Myanmar (Burma), and parts of China; other countries produce smaller amounts.
Cassiterite is said to be a stone of personal protection. It is an excellent stone for grounding and protecting against negativity, which is reflected back to the sender. It also helps to channel Divine Light into the physical body.
Cassiterite is believed to be a superb stone for those engaged in Shamanic activities. It is an ideal stone for creating doorways through which to experience interdimensional travel and inner journeying and to draw energy into the shape or form you desire to take. Shamanically speaking, Cassiterite facilitates the breaking down of old structures and provides the energy needed to manifest new creations. Cassiterite also helps us to remember our dreams and can help us in all types of transitions.
