Jet is fossilized wood that is much older than Petrified Wood. Formed when wood was immersed in water for millions of years. A precursor to coal, when burned or touched with a hot iron, Jet often smells like coal.  A lightweight, shiny, opaque and dark brown to jet-black gemstone that is found in Canada and other countries.  Jet is excellent as a grounding gemstone, and has intense purification and protection vibrations. Sometimes called Black Amber, Jet may induce an electric charge when rubbed, just as Amber does. 

Jet has been used for eons; believed to bring good luck to the wearer, burned around patients to cure fevers. Monks used Jet in the creation of prayer beads (rosary). Pueblo Indians would burry Jet with their dead to protect the soul in the afterlife. Used as jewelry during mourning periods. Jet has also been used as an effective antidote for depression. Jet offers protection from evil and violence. It was believed to prevent demonic possession, and is said to have control over all demons.

Jet wards off psychic attacks. A powerful absorber of negative energy. Jet is said to absorb the carriers’ energies, it used to be passed down the generation of families. Jet imparts the powers of divination, projection and protection. In the first aid kit, Jet is used to relieve toothaches and migraine headaches.  

Jet needs frequent cleansing, as it absorbs energies. Using sage or other crystals to cleanse and recharging with the Moonlight is recommended for Jet. Avoid using water or Sun. Use sage or palo santo to smudge.
